about

music and lyrics by Curt Sydnor

lyrics

Who here will raise a drink to Death?
The hastening from green to golden,
the hollow tree in its decades to die,
heart open wide to civilizations
of fungi.

It's time I think we drink to parting,
our time is brief and bitter to lose.
Once the angels had sung to us in thirds
they slowly dispersed,
sending traces of birdsong
heavenwards.

Why don't you think we drink to America,
the mother source and child of affliction?
She's in the darkest corner of Gesthemane
dulling her senses, pardoning princes,
laying a bet on the crucifixion.
